Everyone can make a difference!

September Subsidised Desexing Programme

While most Sydneysiders are enjoying this beautiful sunny weather those involved in animal rescue know there is a darker side. As we approach spring animals will begin to breed, and by October pounds and shelters will be overflowing with newborn kittens and pregnant cats. Last year 17,407 cats were destroyed in NSW pounds, so we can see the majority of these animals will be born simply to die.

If you have an undesexed pet or you know of someone who does, now is the time to desex before they reproduce. This is also the time of year to think very seriously about desexing any strays in your area. You might not be able to commit to caring for them in the long term, but if you don’t desex them now you can guarantee that very soon their numbers will explode. Each litter will contain on average between 4 – 6 kittens, any female kittens will be ready to breed by 4 months of age and as soon as they give birth they will be ready to mate again. The simpler solution is to desex that one stray now before it gets out of hand.

Remember, in terms of population control, it is just as important to desex male cats as it is to desex female cats. Click here for more information.

Apply for Subsidised Desexing

For the month of September CatRescue is running a Subsidised Desexing Programme at selected vets around Sydney. This programme is not just for people who own cats or people experiencing financial difficulty, but for people who are feeding stray cats not yet desexed. The fee is $40 per cat (female or male) and you can also elect to have your cat microchipped for $35 (although this is not compulsory if entering the programme).

We encourage everyone to apply – if there is one singular message we want to get out there it’s ‘Desex Now’! Click here to apply and click here to find out more about desexing.

Thank you Dixon Advisory Group

CatRescue would like to thank Dixon Advisory Group for generously supporting our Subsidised Desexing Programme. A significant number of lives will be saved as a direct result of their contribution.

Sponsor Our Programme and Save Lives

CatRescue is seeking financial sponsorship from ethical businesses to help fund our annual Subsidised Desexing Programme. Providing affordable and accessible desexing is central to reducing the shocking number of animals destroyed each year in pounds, especially in the lead up  to and during spring – the cat breeding season.

Please contact us for more information on how you can support our vital and life saving programme. Any participating businesses will feature on our website.

Appeal for Donations

CatRescue is continuously in the process of rescuing and rehoming cats and kittens all year round. For each animal we rescue there are always subsequent vet bills on top of the desexing, vaccinating and microchipping costs.

To cover these costs which allow us to continue our lifesaving work, we rely on the generous support from the community.

If you can put aside just $38.00 each month it will go a long way to helping us care for and rescue more animals from death row. Or please consider making a once off donation. Every dollar we receive is put to immediate and effective use.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
